Royal Tombs of Gyeonggi Province Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site
40 royal tombs of the Joseon dynasty became the eighth Korean UNESCO World Heritage site. Combining beautiful backgrounds and Feng Shui values, the royal tombs have been globally recognized as a culturally valuable asset.
Of the 40 royal tombs just designated as UNESCO World Heritage, 30 are located in Gyeonggi Province. Although the royal tombs of the Joseon dynasty are managed by the Cultural Heritage Administration of Korea, Gyeonggi Province will fully enjoy the benefits of the designation. When the tombs are registered as UNESCO World Heritage sites, it is expected that many foreign tourists will visit. Gyeonggi Province is expected to attract the highest number of tourists, as it has the majority of the tombs in its territory.
