- The Morning Calm Arboretum boasts spectacular morning scenery appropriate for a country known as the ¡°Land of the Morning Calm.¡± - GNewsPlus

The Indian poet Togore once described Joseon as the¡°Land of Morning Calm.¡± Embodying this description, the Morning Calm Arboretum was named by Professor Han Sang-gyung of the Department of Horticulture in Samyuk University, who designed the arboretum in an effort to create a Korean-style garden that conveys the joys and sorrows of Korean history. Located at the base of Chukryung Mountain in Gapyeong County, the Morning Calm Arboretum is comprised of 20 beautiful gardens in a basin of 100,000 pyeong. It takes between 90 minutes to 2 hours to explore the theme gardens including Homeplace Garden, Herb Garden, Mugunghwa Hill, Eden Garden, Pond Garden, Korea Garden, and more. When the occasion calls for it, it is possible to tour the gardens in 30 minutes; however, viewers who do so will miss much of the beautiful scenery. It will likely take a day to immerse your feet into the valley water, enjoy friendly conversations on the wide lawn, and have a romantic dinner in the restaurant. Morning Calm Arboretum also offers an experiential education program for kindergartners and elementary school students twice a day in which participants learn how to observe nature and cultivate plants. The Morning Calm Arboretum is located at the foot of Chukryeong Mountain in Gapyeong County of Gyeonggi Province. One can reach the garden by taking a village bus from the Cheongpyong Terminal. The Morning Calm Arboretum was established by Professor Han Sang-gyu of Samyuk University in 1996. Professor Han aspired to create a unique Korean garden unlike any other place in the world. He constructed the gardens with different seasonal characteristics and themes in which typical elements of Korean traditional aesthetics such as curved lines and asymmetrical balance are used to decorate the inner spaces. A total of 4,000 species of plants native to Chukryeong Mountain as well as rare plants are preserved in the Morning Calm Arboretum, where diverse gardens, an open square, a promenade, and the Fairy's Hot Spring await visitors. There is also a "creative experience program" in which children can make items using natural objects (topiary, balsam dying, wood-pipe necklaces, and so on). The admission fee is KRW 7,000 for adults and KRW 4,000 for children. Operation hours are 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. (open throughout the year).

The School of Nature provides children with opportunities to experience nature; after viewing, visitors are given local farm products commensurate with the admission fee. Front view of the world's only lotus flower museum

In Saeminwon, a garden located in Dumulmeori of Yangpyeong County, Gyeonggi Province, a unique museum has opened in which historic items related to the lotus flower are preserved.

The Lotus Flower Museum, built in Hyangwongak of Saeminwon, is comprised of two floors: the exhibition hall is located on the second floor, and the food exhibition hall - where food made from the lotus is recreated and displayed - is on the third floor. In the 2nd floor exhibition hall, various lotus-related relics inherited from past generations, such as roof tiles and porcelain items inscribed with lotus figures, traditional jackets embroidered with lotus patterns, and furniture and spoons with lotus designs, are exhibited. In the 3rd flood lotus-food exhibition hall, traditional lotus dishes from historic tomes such as yeonyeopju (lotus leaf liquor) and jeonghyang-yeonjajuk made from lotus fruit as well as lotus salad, lotus croquette, and other types of modern fusion dishes are exhibited.

Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Moon-Soo, in his opening ceremony address, said, "The lotus flower has been with us since the Three-Kingdom Period when Buddhism took root in lives of our forefathers." He delineated the purpose of the museum by saying, "This museum of lotus-related relics is designed to restore the wisdom of our forefathers so as to enhance character and enrich daily life through the lotus flower."

The Lotus Flower Museum is open from Tuesday through Sunday every week. Its operation hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (closed on Mondays). As long as the Saemiwon admission fee of KRW 3,000 has been paid, no separate admission fee is required to visit the museum. Visitors may park their vehicles at the Yangseomyon Culture & Sports Park beside Saemiwon.

Saemiwon, celebrating the opening of the Lotus Flower Museum, is holding a special exhibition under the title "Lotus Culture in the Dietary Life of Korean" from July 24 to August 15. In the exhibition, the following items will be on display: 20 examples of tableware and cooling utensils upon which lotus designs are inscribed, such as spoons, bowls, and pots; 2 examples of lotus-flower liquor, one served at court and the other consumed among ordinary people; 40 examples of lotus dishes passed down either by the populace or Buddhist temples; and 10 ancient tomes that contain recipes for lotus dishes. Saemiwon is open throughout the exhibition period and the operation have been extended to 8:00 pm on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Hint talk!!

It is a good place for a filed-trip and even better with a family. It is difficult to participate since all the positions are occupied by those who¡?ve experienced the program before but it may be possible if you try hard. It is a place where fathers will take charge in making kites, spirals and scarecrows who usually hangs back and smokes!
A slide made from an old boat near a sand box is interesting.
