With fertile land, clear water and bountiful agricultural products, Gyeonggi Province is at the center of the organic agriculture movement in Korea.

HEART OF KOREA”S AGRICULTURE INDUSTRY
Gyeonggi Province enjoys a bountiful variety of food products produced by its agricultural industry as well as an abundance of seafood from its coastal areas.  The province has 198,000 hectares of land under cultivation.  Farming households number 142,000 and the population devoted to agriculture stands at 457,000, easily making Gyeonggi Province the heart of Korea’s agricultural industry.
 
Main Agriculture/Horticulture Products (national production ranking)
- Rice: 500,000 tons (4th)
- Flowers: 1,730 hectares (1st)
- Vegetables: 882 thousand tons (1st)
- Beef (cattle): 377 thousand head (1st)
- Pork (swine): 1,874 thousand head (1st) 
 
 
PROMOTING ORGANIC AGRICULTURE
Gyeonggi Province strongly supports sustainable agriculture, and the province’s Paldang Watershed Area is an origin point for its organic farming efforts.  By 2013, authenticated environment-friendly agricultural products will account for 10% of all agricultural products while the usage of agrochemicals will be reduced to 40% of current levels. Gyeonggi Province currently leads the nation in terms of land dedicated to environmentally friendly agriculture.
 
Organic Farming Support Measures

- Direct annual subsidies of KRW 1.1 billion
- Establishment of regional manure recycling centers
- Distribution of organic production materials
- Promotion of organic agriculture R&D
- Provision of relevant training and marketing programs
