Bibimbop_Korean food





Today, I will make bibimbap. To be honest, I feel like bibimbap is a difficult Korean food to make since it needs a lot of ingredients. However because it is so delicious, it will have you comming back for more again. Plus, it is very healthy.  Bibim means ‘mixing’ and Bap means ‘rice’ in Korean. So, you mix rice, various fried vegetables, raw vegetables, meat, egg, dried seaweed, and a special sauce. If you are a vegetarian, you can substitute the beef with mushrooms you like.


Main Ingredients:
• 1/4 Cup Ground Beef
• 1/4 Cup MooSaengChae (Radish-sidedish)
• 1/4 Cup Kimchi
• 2 Handfulls Bean Sprout (KongNaMul)
• 1 Handfull Dried Fernbrake (GoSaRi)
• 1/3 Onion
• 1/3 Carrot
• 1/3 Zucchini
• 1/3 Cucumber
• 2-3 Leaves Lettuce
• 1/2 Green Onion
• 1 Egg
• 1 Dried Seaweed
• 2 Bowls Cooked Rice

Meat Ingredients:
• 1/2 tsp Soy Sauce
• 1/2 tsp Sugar
• 1/2 tsp Cooking Wine
• 1/2 tsp Sesame Oil
• 1 Clove Minced Garlic
• 1 Pinch Salt &Black Pepper

Gosari Ingredients:
• 1/4 Onion
• 2 tsp Soy Sauce
• 1 tsp Sesame Oil
• 1/2 Tbsp Olive Oil
• 1/2 tsp Minced Garlic

Sauce Ingredients:
• 3 Tbsp Red Pepper Paste
• 1/4 tsp Soy Sauce
• 1 tsp Brown Rice Vinegar or Apple Vinegar
• 1 tsp Sugar
• 3/4 tsp Sesame Seeds
• 1 tsp Sesame Oil
• 1/2 tsp Minced Garlic

Yield: 2 Servings
In a bowl, mix 1/4 cup of ground beef, 1/2 tsp of soy sauce, 1/2 tsp of sugar, 1/2 tsp of cooking wine, 1/2 tsp of sesame oil, 1 clove minced garlic, 1 pinch of salt, and 1 pinch black pepper all together. Set it aside while you are preparing the other ingredients.


Add the boiled bean sprouts, 1/2 tsp of sesame oil, and 1 pinch of salt. Mix well.
1. We call this fern ‘gosari’ in Korea.If you buy dried gosari, soak one handful of gosari in water over night.If the gosari is still not soft, then boil it in wateruntil it becomes soft, before you fry it.
2. Cut it into 3 inch pieces.In a pan, add the gosari, 1/4 of sliced onion, 2 tsp of soy sauce, 1 tsp of sesame oil, 1/2 tbsp of olive oil, and 1/2 tsp of minced garlic.Fry for 10 minutes.
3. Julienne 1/3 of a carrot and 1/3 of a zucchini to the same size.Slice 1/3 of an onion thinly. Cut 1/2 of a green onion thinly.Fry the green onion with a little bit of salt for 5 seconds.
4. In the same way, fry the onion with a pinch of salt for 20 seconds.
5. Fry the zucchini for 1 minute with some salt.
6. Fry the carrot for 30 second with some salt.
Fry the marinated beef until the beef is completely cooked.
7. Fry one flat egg with a pinch of salt.
8. Slice it thinly.
9. Cut 1/4 cup of kimchi into small pieces.
10. Fry with a little bit of oil for 2 minutes.You can add a little bit of sugar if you want.
Cut 1 sheet of dried seaweed with scissors.
11. Cut 2~3 leaves of lettuce thinly.
12. Julienne 1/3 of a cucumber thinly.


This is the radish side dish, MooSaengChae.I already posted a recipe on how to make it, so please check that recipe out.


To make the sauce, mix 3 tbsp of red pepper paste, 1/4 tsp of soy sauce, 1 tsp of vinegar, 1 tsp of sugar, 1 tsp of sesame oil, 3/4 tsp of sesame seeds, and 1/2 tsp of minced garlic.


All of the ingredients are ready, it’s time to serve and eat. 


In a large bowl, (you can use your mixing bowl) place 1 cup of cooked rice, all of the vegetables, kimchi, egg, and dried seaweed. Put the beef in the center. Then, pour 2~3 spoons of sauce on top of the beef. You can adjust the amount of the sauce, depending on your taste. If you like spicy foods and want a lot of spicy sauce for your bibimbap, double the sauce recipe.

Kimbop_Korean food





This time I will show you how to make one very popular Korean dish, kimbap. Koreans love kimbap, so when we go on a picnic, we bring kimbap. There are many kinds of kimbap in Korea, such as kimchi kimbap, cheese kimbap, tuna kimbap, beef kimbap, nude kimbap, sesame leaves kimbap, and so on. Among them, I will make a very common kimbap today. It will have 5 things in it: cucumbers, pickled radishes, ham, crab sticks, and eggs. My secret for kimbap is that all of the ingredients have same size, because that will help make the kimbap look more delicious and taste better.


Main Ingredients:
• 10 Sheets Dried Seaweed
• 5 Crab Sticks
• 10 Pieces Ham
• 1 Seedless Cucumber
• 10 Pieces Pickled Radish (DanMuJi)
• 5 Eggs
• 7~8 Bowls of Cooked Rice

Rice Ingredients:
• 1 tsp Salt
• 1 1/2 Tbsp Sesame Oil
• 1 1/2 Tbsp Olive Oil
• 1/2 Tbsp Sesame Seeds

Yield: 10 Kimbaps
1. Cut the cucumber to the same length as the crab stick and cut the cucumber in half. Cut it half again, then divide it into three or four pieces.
2. Sprinkle 1 1/2 tsp of sea salt on the cucumber.Leave it set for 5 minutes.
3. After 5 minutes, rinse the cucumber once.
4. Wipe the water off with a towel.
5. Cut the pickled radish into half inch slices.It should be the same thickness as the cucumber.You can just buy pickled radishes that are already cut, but I think they cut them too thin; so I prefer to cut the whole radish by myself.
6. Cut the ham into similarly sized pieces as the cucumbers and radishes.
7. Cut 5 crab sticks in half to make 10 crab sticks.
8. Break 5 eggs and add 5 pinches of salt. Mix well.
9. On medium heat, add a little bit of oil and wipe it with a paper towel.
10. Pour the mixed eggs into the pan.Let it cooked until the surface is cooked like this.Reduce the
temperature to low. Flip over the egg.
11. Cut the egg into half inch pieces.
12. In a large bowl, add 7 or 8 bowls of cooked rice.
13. Add 1 1/2 tbsp of sesame oil, 1 1/2 tbsp of olive oil, 1 tsp of salt, and 1/2 tbsp of sesame seeds.Mix gently, so your rice will not be mashed.
14. Cover your rice with the plastic wrap, so it will not get dry.
15. The shiny part of the seaweed sheet will be on the bottom.
16. Spread some rice on 2/3 of the seaweed sheet.


Place the pickled radish and crab stick on top of the rice.


Put the cucumber and ham next to the crab stick.


Put the egg on top of the ham.
17. Roll the seaweed sheet.
18. Rolling it tightly is important.
19. Put some rice on the end of the seaweed sheet to help seal it shut.
20. Roll the kimbap with the bamboo mat.


Squeeze it hard. This is also important for a good shape.


Put some sesame oil on the surface of the kimbap.It will give flavor and keep your kimbap shiny.


Cut the kimbap into half inch pieces or bite sized pieces.I recommend that you do not cut it too thick.


Wow, it looks very yummy, doesn’t it? ;D

I went on a picnic with my family to Toechon, Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province.


There are several famous restaurants serving noodles, Korean cuisine and spicy fish soups in Toechon, but I never miss a restaurant when I go to Toechon. It is Namgang House located in Bunwon-ri, Namjong-myeon, Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province.

Although I visited Namgang House in the early morning of a weekend, its parking lot and parking spaces in the riverside were already crowded with visitors of Bunwon-ri. I guess Namgang House is the most popular
spot in Bunwon-ri.

Visitors can enjoy the view of Namhangang (River) beside the riverside parking space in front of Namgang House, and Gyeongan Stream, an effluent from Paldang Lake, flows right in front of Namgang House.

Toechon-myeon is famous as the growing district of tomatoes, but tomatoes are out of season now and has now replaced by potatoes.

Odeng Bbokkeum (오뎅 볶음) is a Korean side dish. Odeng means fish cake and Bokkeum means fried. In the past, most Korean students brought their own lunch box to school everyday since schools didn’t have a cafeteria like nowadays. Odeng bokkeum was one common side dish for our lunch box, because of that, it brings back memories of our school days. It is also a common side dish for homemade meals. If you like spicy food you can add more red pepper powder. Keep this side dish in the refrigerator and serve it with rice. I hope you enjoy this food.

Buchu Jeon (부추전) is one of the popular Korean snacks. Sometimes Koreans like to eat pancakes on rainy days because it is a simple and quick snack to make without going out in the rain.
