Description
This fortress was designated as the nation’s 139th Historical Place. During the late Joseon Dynasty. when the country was trying to protect itself from foreign powers, the fortress was used to drive off American and English warships. It was a strategic military base because it protects the country from enemies coming from the sea and stops them from going to Ganghwa Island, which is very close to Seoul. A battle took place here between the Korean and French soldiers during Byeonginyangyo (a battle with foreign invaders in the Byeongin year). The fortress was built in 1694, the 20th year of Sukjong's governance, to protect the Ganghwa Island from enemies. It is 6km in length and has three gates (East, West, and North) and a temple called Munsusa within it. The surrounding area has such beautiful scenery, especially in fall when the leaves turn red and yellow, that it is even called the "Geumgang of Gimpo". Standing on the top of the fortress you can see into North Korea.
Transportation
Bus: Take the Ganghwa bound bus from Sinchon and Incheon Bus Terminal to the Gimpo University (about twenty minutes). Car: Take the road #48 to pass Masong and Gunha-ri to the Seongdong checkup point.

Description
This is where people experience both pleasure and sadness because they can see North Korean villages with the naked eye. This was the only place from which to see North Korea before exchanges between the North and South were allowed. After the observatory was built, about 200,000 people visited the place each year. A large Christmas tree is set up here during Christmas and a Buddhist mass is held on the Buddha's birthday under the theme of unification. The scenery here is very beautiful.
Transportation
Bus: Take the Gunha-ri bound bus from Suwon and Sinchon Bus Terminal and take a taxi (10 minutes). Car: Take the road #48 to pass Masong and turn right at Gunha-ri to go straight for 10 minutes.
