Full of Unique Things – Mosan Farm Travel Story , Paju-si gyeonggi-do
Full of Unique Things – Mosan Farm Travel Story , Paju-si gyeonggi-do

I was a little bit nervous, when thinking about visiting a farm. I arrived at the farm the next day and many people, eager to familiarise themselves with dairy farming, were already there. Once we had walked along a path a sign for the farm was visible in the distance and a pastel-colored house came to view. The farm was at first sight very impressive.

Feeding a young cow

The farm was very busy. The children were trying to feed a calf with milk. Looking at the beautiful farm buildings, I joined the farm experience. Walking into the calves’ barn I could see my children feeding milk to a calf. Some children were too scared to feed the calf; others were doing their jobs very well.

Milking a cow

Large cows were standing in a room. The children, assisted by the workers, were trying to milk the cow and were soon realizing that the milk they got was the same as the milk they drink every morning. The fresh milk of Mosan Farm is sent to a factory in Seoul, and delivered to our homes every morning. The picture portraying 'how to get milk' helped us understand the whole process of milking a cow.

Circling a farm with riding a tractor

Once every course finished, the 'riding a tractor' experience was waiting for the children. Running like a small train through the entrance of the farm, the tractor encircled whole areas of the farm. The fresh breeze from the field was blowing into their faces. I could not stop smiling, discovering some children fast asleep. Maybe they had become so tired after all the farm activities.

Taking a picture with a calf

The calves ran away from the children, reluctant to have their pictures taken. The children approached four young cows separated from their moms for a break. The farm separates the calf from its mom and the calf will begin producing milk 14 months after its birth. The calf, fed with milk for the first 4 months, can eat the grass for the next 6 months.

Feeding with grass

Once the children were gathered together, then workers wearing novel hats asked the children questions. "Do milk cows have upper teeth or not?" Definitely, the milk cow does not have upper teeth, which is why children can be familiar with the cows while feeding them. The cows took the grass into their mouth by using their tongue.

Making a chesse and ice cream

In the Cheese Room, the individual equipment was arranged, and the wooden interior to the room added to the exotic mood. In addition wooden chairs and a wine bar enhanced the unique mood. After eating lunch, the children started to make chocolate ice cream with the ingredients prepared by the farm. It was possible to make the ice cream even without a refrigerator. Put the milk and chocolate into a small bucket, then put it into a bigger bucket, and shake the bucket after adding some ice cubes and salts. That was all.

Mini Zoo

In the Mini Zoo, there were a variety of animals including a beautiful peacock, a rabbit, a dog and ducks.

Mosan Farm was just a small country village in 1970, located in the suburban area of Paju City, Gyeonggi-do. The farm was renamed Gyoya Farm and joined The Association of Seoul Milk in 1975. It has been running an experience program for children since moving to its present spot in 2005.

Haeiri Art Village was established near Mosan Farm. It holds various themed exhibition halls, toy museums, and many kinds of attractive buildings. Also, it is fun to look around the famous buildings of the artists, like the Book House, Hanhyangrim Gallery, Hwanginyong Music Center. The village is still under construction.

The museum also has about 300 additional pieces including tools that were used to make bows and arrows.

Highlights of the collections include Seokgoong, a stone bow that requires at least three to four fully grown men to operate, and ancient arrows that have been restored only recently. NOTE

Korean Bows The bow most representative of those made in Korea is Gakgung, which tends to be shorter than others, and is made with different materials giving it a unique flexibility. Other noteworthy Korean

bows include the Jukjeon, which is made of bamboo, Cheolmokgoong, which is made of both iron and wood, and Cheolgoong, which is made of iron. Bows were usually made out of materials that were readily

available in local regions. In the past, arrows were made with bamboo especially in the southern part of the country, and were called Jukjeon. In other areas, people made arrows either with bush clover or the weeping willow, and called them Moksi. But arrows made of bush clover were very scarce.
