[Intangible Cultural Asset] and Wongol Munhwa-maeul[Culture Village]

Description
Designated in 1964 as nationally important intangible cultural asset, the Yangjubyeolsandae-nori is a drama that satirizes the joys and sorrows of common people and social concerns. The drama unfolds as various people including a ruined aristocrat, a deprived monk, a shaman, and servants come onstage and disclose social ironies through unique dance and gestures, and both comical and provocative dialogue which are extremely entertaining. The Yangjubyeolsandae-nori Initiation Center staages a performance every Saturday (time varies by season) and is perfect to see with family or friends.
The Wongol Cultural Village was Yangju's administrative center from 1506 (1st year of King Chungjeong) to 1922. This is why it was named 'Wongol', which means 'mayor's village'. It has the restored Yangju-Gwana (government office) along with numerous other cultural assets such as the Yangju-hyanggyo (a former type of private learning institution), Yangjudaemo-sanseong (mountain fortress), Geumhajeong (pavilion), Yuyang Waterfall, Yangjubyeolsan-nori Initiation Center, and Yuyang-palgyeong (‘eight beautiful scenes’). Designated by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism as a trial 'culture village', efforts have been undertaken to restore the village to its original state.
