My trip to GAFIC Korean Culture Experience Event

My trip to GAFIC Korean Culture Experience Event

My trip to GAFIC Korean Culture Experience Event

MITSUI KINZOKU KOREA CO., LTD Masahiro Hagimoto (left) Kazuyo Hagimoto (right)

The bus for the Culture Experience Event started up its engine in a beautiful morning of early summer. Our fi rst destination was Korean Folk Village and I thought that many people may already have visited the village since it was a famous spot for the foreigners in Korea. It was my third time also but I was still excited because places have their seasonal beauty that changes from time to time. I had visited the village the second time in fall and enjoyed the wonderful autumn leaves. This time I felt as taking a walk in a green park. The group tour offered us with a guide service and I could rediscover many things that I had just
passed by.

It was interesting to see what kind of life style the earlier Koreans lived. The reproduction was so great that I almost felt as they were actually living there. I was so impressed by the bamboo craft man’s fast hand skill that I bought a bamboo basket at last. We have placed the basket in the living room and we love it there. I felt that it would have been even better if I could speak Korean and talk to the craft man. That surely was a great motivation for me to learn Korean! I really enjoyed the Agricultural music and rope show. The traditional wedding ceremony was not a performance but really a wedding for a couple. The bride was Japanese
and I wished for the best luck in their future. We then headed to our second tour site and the on the way, we had Hanjeongsik for lunch. So many dishes were served that we couldn’t fi nish them all.

Hanjeongsik restaurants have their own specialty dishes and there were some food that I tried for the fi rst time. I thought of the other specialties that I had before and compared them with the one this time. When
we got the Wowoojungsa, we could see a temple in the upper part of the mountain. The golden Buddha statute greeted us and we were told that the statute is in the middle of a reconstruction. The Head Monk of
the temple guided us for the temple tour. He suggested to see the ‘back of the Buddha’s feet’ so we climbed up to the top of the mountain, sweating hard. We saw the generous smile of the Buddha and felt that it was worth coming up.

We live in a dull routine in cubicles and I felt as that I got somewhat purifi ed. It was a valuable experience. The next activity was horse-riding.

It was my first time to ride a horse and I was so excited from the previous night that I almost felt as a kid before his fi rst class trip. Before horse riding we had our barbeque dinner and usually I love having barbeques but I was so looking forward for horse-riding that I almost lost my appetite. About ten minutes of riding were allotted for each participant. As I got up to the horse back I could have a wider view and felt animated at the same time. I patted the horse as a sign of gratitude and I could feel his temperature. The horse had clear, beautiful eyes.

I made many memories during the day. I was tired yet happy. Experiencing something new is always a lot of fun. It makes me feel that I am alive and this feeling charges me up for the coming days. I would like to
thank all the staff members for the Culture Experience trip. Thank you all!

Executives and employees of Foreign Invested Companies enjoy the cooperation-promoting culture experience event

They learn about Korean culture and communicate with each other

2009 7 July Info letter No.62

Gyeonggi Association of Foreign Invested Companies (GAFIC) holds two major Korean culture experience events annually and held the first event of the year on May 30th.Over seventy executives and employees
from the fifteen member companies (including Delphi Korea) from US, Japan and Taiwan participated in the event. GAFIC explained that they expect to promote not only foreigners’ adaptation to Korea but also
mutual cooperation between the member companies through the event. They believe that this will facilitate future foreign investment to Korea amid unfavorable business conditions and economic down turn. GAFIC
emphasized the importance of creating a friendly environment for the member companies to promote mutual cooperation.

GAFIC chairman Im Byung Hoon hopes that the event will serve as a great diversion for the foreign executives and employees who work hard day and night. “The event will not only promote etter ommunication
between the member companies but also lead to practical business cooperation among them.”, he added.

Director of DAIHEN Korea, Toru Kawano said that it was his first participation in a culture experience event during his four years of stay in Korea. He was very happy to get to know other staff members from many companies and to share information with them. He also thought that the event offered a wonderful chance for him to get to know about the companies that are located in different parts of Gyeonggido including those in as far as Paju. Kinzo Kabuki, Director of CU-Tech and the employees said that the event helped them to understand Korean culture better. They believe that their understanding will make it easier for them to
communicate with the Korean employees at work. They agreed with Mr. Toru that the event provided them with an excellent opportunity to learn about the other foreign invested companies in Gyeonggi.
