VJ Kim Ga-young

I’ve visited Soyosan (Mt.) for some fresh air.

I got off at Soyosan Station on Subway Line 1 and hiked up the mountain. As I was hiking, an old couple hiker recommended that I try out pine nut-scented green showers, since the Soyosan area is famous for its pine nuts.

The sonorous scent actually calmed me down.

Soyosan is famous for its maple forest during autumn, but I was sadly too early for the autumnal tints.

On my way back, I saw the Freedom Protection Peace Museum on the road connected to the edge of the mountain, filled with the relics and data of 21 UN nations that participated in the Korean War.

Looking at the War Monument, I thought that everyone would have hoped for peace even during the war.

There were touching poets well-arranged in monuments beside the flower trees, and the museum walking road was really nice.

Thinking that the day escaping from my daily routine and relaxing at Soyosan would last for a long time in my memories, I end my Soyosan diary for today, promising myself of the next maple trip to Soyosan.

Mascot -Aguileon

The mascot of Suwon Samsung Bluewings Football Club, Aguileon is a Griffon, the legendary animal from Greek mythology with the head of an eagle and the body of a lion. The name is a composite of the Spanish words for the two distinct body parts, aguila (meaning 'eagle') and leon ('lion'). The wings of Aguileon's back are representative of the blue wings featured on the giant 60 meter-long banner of the Grandbleu supporters club, and their inclusion in the design of the mascot symbolizes the harmony of the team and its supporters.

BLUEWINGS-HISTORY

Suwon Samsung Bluewings Football Club, founded in December 1995, has positioned itself as one of the most prominent football clubs in Korea in a short period of time. In the very first year of the club's participation in the K-Leagu, Suwon claimed the second stage of the 1996 league championship, an achievement that caused quite a big sensation in Korean football. Although they lost out to Ulsan Hyundai in the Championship playoff that year the club had progressed a lot and indeed reached the final of the inaugural FA Cup competition in December that year where they narrowly lost out to Pohang Steelers on penalties.
1997 was all about building on the foundations laid in the debut year as the club continued to strengthen their squad and develop a unique style of play. When the 1998 season began it was clear something special was happening with the Bluewings, and on the final day of the season a 3-0 victory away at Bucheon was enough to see off the challenge of nearest rivals Ulsan as Suwon were crowned 1998 K-League champions. The Bluewings also made their first foray into Asian competition that season by competing in the 1997/98 Asian Cup Winners' Cup tournament. Making it all the way to the final, Suwon fell at the final hurdle to Saudi Arabian side Al-Nasr, but already the Bluewings name had been made known all around Asia.
The following season the Bluewings swept all before them on the domestic stage, picking up the 1999 K-League Championship, Adidas Cup, League Cup and Korean Super Cup trophies. With players such as Sasa Drakulic, Denis Laktionov, Seo Jung-won and Park Kon-ha setting the league on fire it was clear that Suwon's potential was only beginning to be realized.
Suwon Samsung Bluewings did not sit back in light of their remarkable domestic achievements but instead started to make greater efforts to become an international force. The club competed in the 1999/00 Asian Champions Cup where they were eliminated at the semi-final stage, but made up for that disappointment by retaining the Adidas Cup and Korean Super cup trophies.
The club had always dreamed of establishing itself as the best in Asia, and that dream was realized on May 26th 2001 when the Bluewings defeated Japanese side Jubilo Iwata to lift the 20th Asian Club Championship. Three months later they won the 27th Asian Super Cup, which meant that the club raised the level and profile of Korean football internationally.
In 2002, when the profile of Korean football was being raised massively around the world thanks to the efforts of the national side at the World Cup tournament, the Bluewings again scaled the heights of Asian football by retaining both the Asian Club Championship and Asian Super Cup trophies. One trophy was, however, missing from the Bluewings' trophy cabinet but that was finally added as Suwon defeated Pohang Steelers in the 2002 FA Cup final.
At the end of the 2003 season Kim Ho, who led the club for seven glorious years, announced his retirement as head coach and Suwon Samsung Bluewings unveiled Cha Bum-keun, arguably Asia's greatest ever player, as the second coach in Bluewings' history.
In 2004, the Bluewings made a big sensation with their new slogan ‘BOOM 2004'. With their new coach Cha the club won the second stage of the league championship and finally won their third K-League title in a thrilling Championship final against Pohang. It was the first time in K-League history that a new coach had won the Championship in his first year with a club.
Suwon Samsung Bluewings also introduced a scientific and effective management system to Korean football, starting with the first general manager , Korean-German Yoon Seong-kyun (1995~1998). Yoon brought advanced European systems to the club, which helped immensely in improving individual performances and strengthening the physical condition of the players. As the second general manager Hue Young-ho took office (1998~2003), the club was able put these philosophies into action, which made it possible for the club to win the K-League twice as well as claiming two Asian Club Championships and two Asian Super Cups. Now with third general manager An Gi-heon (2003~present) in place, the Bluewings are preparing a higher flight.
Suwon Samsung Bluewings plans to maintain their reputation as one of Asia's best clubs through their participation in the Asian Champions' League, and has been making steady efforts to become an international powerhouse beyond the Asian arena.
Not satisfied with their reputation as one of the most successful clubs in Asia, Suwon Samsung Bluewings will not forget their resolution that they will pay back the deep affection and warm support of the fans by leaping to prominence on the international football stage. This may be the true and real driving factor for the Bluewings today.

VJ Eom Hee-kyeong

Everyone, this place is located in Gunpo.

This place works around the clock to stably provide citizens with clean water,

Along with something else special.

Let’s all go have a look!

Water Theme Museum

You can directly experience and learn everything about water here.

Water Love Room

Your eyes have so many things to take in here, from various models to images on simple facts on water, its history, and the production processes of tap water.

This place is full of water-related information on its history of development, water and the Earth, and water and the human body.

Lee Hyeon-ju

I think that this is very educational because I can naturally let my children look around the place to easily understand how the water comes to our house and why we have to conserve water.

I’ve never known it before that so many microorganisms such as closterium, amoeba, water flea and euglena live in the water.

How much water is needed for its purification?

The largest amount of water is needed in purifying noodle water, milk, edible oil and soju.

This is the Gunpo Water Purification Plant that creates fresh and clean tap water that we use to wash and drink.

This is where you can enhance your originality by understanding scientific fundamentals on the use of water by using educational tools for water experience, such as the pump house of spiral water.

Water Theme Museum

This place has Jagyeokru(water clock), Cheukwugi(rain gauge), Mujawui(water pump), Yongdurae(scoop bucket), wells and water mills, artifacts that our ancestors used back in the past.

This is an outdoor area that recreated past life customs on water.

Kim Seong-hwa

It’s so nice to be at the Water Theme Museum with my children.

It was nice that the children could see how water actually comes to us.

Also, it was very interesting and helpful seeing the tools placed outdoors, that we used in the past.

Water Theme Park, full of interesting and helpful contents

How about enjoying a visit of realizing the preciousness of water with your family in this era of high oil prices?

Jackie Chan

Jackie Chan interviews with MBC Newsdesk
Jackie Chan, who recently announced that he would donate his entire assets of almost 400 million won, held an interview with MBC Newsdesk on December 14. Chan repeatedly stated that he would donate his all the charity organizations he's created to society and would not leave as so much a spoon when he dies.

Chan, who almost died shooting one of his movies, stated he found happiness through donation. He went onto add that once you become a philanthropist, it's difficult to stop because you worry about what others will think of you. "I have no choice but to do good things because people around me expect me to do so," he commented.

He added that he plans to focus on children's education and rehabilitation. Chan encouraged others to donate by saying, "A few hundred dollars of surgery money can change a child's life." Chan is currently shooting a movie in New Mexico, U.S.A.

Jackie Chan sends USD 10,000 and letter of encouragement to Kim Jang-hun

Singer Kim Jang-hun recently received a letter in Korean from Asian actor Jackie Chan. In the letter, which Kim publicly revealed, Chan wrote, "I heard about a young man who's relentlessly offering his services for the needy. Although small in amount, I wanted to take part in your deed." In addition, Chan wrote, "Most of all, please take care of your health. I hope you will continue to offer your beautiful services to those in need."

Kim stated that Chan's letter and check was like the swallow who came to Heungbu (who was the good-hearted one, unlike his wicked older brother, Nolbu) right after he fell sick at the West Coast Festival. He went to add, "Jackie told me not to reveal it because he was embarrassed, but I decided to do so because I found him so genuine and the letter so cute."
Chan had sent the letter along with a check in the amount of USD10,000 to Kim after he heard about Kim's collapse during the West Coast Festival this past July. At a concert held in Boryeong on December 6, Kim donated the money to the city.

I am currently at the Central Library located in Gunpo, Gyeonggi Province.

The Central Library not only arranges space to build up on intellectual nourishment,

but also provides numerous and various programs.

Are you all curious? Then come with me.

Arts at the library

Traditional European marionette

Wooden doll concert

The Central Library of Gunpo is giving away dolls to families in celebration of the oncoming vacation.

What made you come here to see the wooden doll concert today?

I wanted to have unusual experiences for my two sons, and I took them to the library. It was very nice.

The library is preparing many programs aside from its contemporary image.

What do you think about that?

I like it because we can come to the library often with children.

I hope that many more people would consider it as our cultural space.

How was the wooden doll concert?

Seeing it in reality moving as if it were alive, it was marvelous and interesting.

So how was your impression of the Central Library?

This place is much nicer because it is located on the edges of Surisan,

And I suggest picnics with your family during the weekends.

“Respect for Humans”,

Respect for Humans (In-gan-jon-jung)
This means high self-esteem with the respect for others. It is the first principle that Ajou pursues through its research, education, and public service. It teaches us to connect ourselves to our neighborhoods, nation and to the world through respect and understanding, regarding a human being not as a tool, but as an ultimate goal or a value.

Seeking Truth from Fact (Sil-sa-gu-si)
Seeking truth from fact conveys the meaning that academic results should be useful in practice. It is Ajou’s most fundamental philosophy that seeking truth and academic research must be based on facts and their results should contribute to people’s welfare.

One World, One Family (Se-gye-il-ga)
This is a spirit that emphasizes that the entire world should move in harmony. We must break through the small barrier of the Korean Peninsula and advance to the world, and at the same time accept what’s coming from the outside. This is Ajou’s foremost principle in educating the youth.

Dankook University
http://www.dankook.ac.kr/html/english/index.html
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dankook_University
Dankook University is a private university in South Korea. The main campus was moved from Seoul to Yongin in 2007 and boasts technologically advanced classrooms, high-end facilities, ample dorm space and one of Korea's most aesthetically beautiful university campuses. Most of the original Seoul campus has been sold, but some graduate programs, recruiting programs, language programs and outreach programs are available in the remaining Seoul campus. There is an extension campus, which is located in Cheonan, a city in South Chungcheong province, and which sits on the face of beautiful hills and a lake. The Cheonan campus includes the largest hospital in the region and one of Korea's top dental programs, as well as the only 4-year Mongolian Language and Literature Department in Korea. The university hosts a student body of about 20,000, and employs an instructional faculty of about 630.

Motto
The Foundation of Dankook University
In 1911, Korea was suffering under the Japanese colonial regime. The founder of Dankook University, Mr Hyoung Chang (later Sir Beomjeong) quit his studies as a 20 year old, moved to Manchuria and joined the Korean independence movement in exile.
For the next 34 years, he braved many dangers in his fight for independence and worked closely with Mr Ku Kim, one of the leading figures in the Korean provisional government.
In 1945, when Korea regained independence, Hyoung Chang returned to his homeland. With his friend Kee-hong Park, Sir Beomjeong became convinced that Korea's future as a free and peaceful nation lay in educating its young people, and he dedicated himself to the task of opening a new college. Sadly Mr Park died before he could witness the establishment of Dankook University on November 3, 1947 - with his widow (Lady Hyedang Cho) and Sir Beomjeong Chang as co-founders.
Dankook then became the first four-year private college in Korea, and its co-founders were able to pass on their thirst for higher learning to many young Korean students.

Dankook University Mottoes
As champions of Korea independence and sense of nationhood, Dankook's co-founders took inspiration from Dankoon, the founder of Korea, and dedicated the university to the principle of humanitarianism. The mottoes of 'National Salvation', 'Independence' and 'Self-Reliance' became part of the university's identity.
The principle of national salvation took shape as Koreans began to enjoy their freedom from colonial rule, but realized the need to develop a new society based on the ability of its people.
Similarly, the motto of independence reflected the strong desire of all young Koreans to strive for a better future in a democratic society. Self reliance focused on each individual's need to maintain his/her integrity and competence, through devotion and diligence.

Dankook's Precepts
Underlying the three mottoes that became part of Dankook's identity are the twin guiding principles of 'Truth' and 'Service'. Truth governs the mind in our search for what is right and creates a learning environment that benefits all Dankook students.
Service dictates the actions that we take to pursue a better society for our neighbors, country and the world at large.

Educational Goals
The cornerstones of 'Truth' and 'Service', and the mottoes they produced, are the guiding principles of our university.
But in a rapidly changing world, Dankook strives to educate professional young people to make a greater contribution to Korean society.
The spirit of humanitarianism remains, and our study programs encourage initiative, practicality and benefiting humanity.

Dankook's Mascot
According to Korean mythology, the black bear represents Dankoon's patience and courage in overcoming ferocity. This mascot for our university symbolizes our efforts to continue the spirit of humanitarianism, and maintain the focus of Truth and Service in the minds of our students.

Do you all know where I’m going right now? You don’t?

This is the National Museum of Contemporary Art.

There are many different kinds of art works and varieties of special exhibitions in the National Museum of Contemporary Art.

I’d especially like to enjoy an outdoor date with you today.

So let’s take a look at the many sculptures outside.

Shall we?

National Museum of Contemporary Art

-Outdoor Exhibition-

There are many sculptures in the Outdoor Sculpture Park.

This sculpture is named ‘Ipsan’.

This is the most prominent work that came into my eyes from far out.

This piece is called ‘Festival of Rocks.’

How was your cultural stroll with me?

It feels so nice to visit the museum once in a while like this.

Especially, the National Museum of Contemporary Arts is conjoined with the great nature,
making it better. Now you know where to go next on your picnic.
